Guitarist Phil Keegan was gone and drummer / lead singer Clark Hagins had the audacity to "move up front" to play Guitar and sing Alongside Trusty Red Head Bassist Rick "Ted" Carmody ,.. There was no drummer though but studio songs were due to be recorded so Hagins grabbed his old Premier Drum Kit and some sticks and he and Carmody entered Accessive Light and Sound Studio in Harbor City California with Studio Engineer / Producer Andrew Houston and they proceeded to overdub their own whole album and maybe ala Genesis "And then there were three" ( even though there were only two ! ),... and the tracks that the "New" configured Greenhouse Effect would come to record would change the shape and direction of indie Rock n' roll Music ! AND FOREVER ! "Grunge" and punk rock and even "Prog" like ideas would emerge ! The lyrics weirdly seemed to mock left-wing people and the punk rock scene as the Twisted politics of Hagins seemed to be emerging on the Brand New "Going Legit" album recording sessions: "I hate liberal people,..." Hagins says there is a bit of Frank Zappa irony in his words and that he seems to be 'also" attacking stuck up rightwing and Christian people with his music equally or even worse than the way he attacks liberals at times; "I'm only in it for the money." Says Hagins.

BEN IS DEAD starts out as it launches into some sort of tirade banter DIATRIBE that almost could have come off the "Battle of the Bands" album by the Turtles or maybe an early Zappa record from 1967 OR 68' ,.. it is loaded with profanity as it makes no friends with the right ,.. and of course THE LEFT TOO !

Hagins lyrics just about "always" come from his troubled childhood back in the South Bay of Torrance California; "Few people liked me then and few people like me now ,.. but something in our Universe wants G.e to be heard" Says Hagins. "And it GETS HEARD !!!"

Hagins says that ANYONE who even dares 'thinks' even remotely badly of him ,.. could have severe troubles ,..in their future; "Don't do it" Says Haggins. "People know I'm a nice guy ,.. they just like to fuck with me AND they just like to prey on sweet people ,.. its the old story ,.. I will end up winning ,.. it's not worth it ,.. I pray every day ,.. So watch out ,," ,,.. A MYSTERY FORCE seems to have Hagins' back ,..if no one else does. HAGINS SAYS "THE CURSE OF THE SHARK" seems to be the real deal ,..

DEAD END STREET seems to be a kinder gentler Hagins as he navigates the story of Maury - The Lad insane as 1991 saw him building the beginnings to THE ROCK OPERA WHITE SUBURBAN LIARS ,... "This track is rather odd ,.. quite an anomaly for G.e. ,.. this thing sounds like it was recorded in London in maybe 1968 or 69' ,..and today ,..I think maybe a bigger better studio might have given it more power ,.. or maybe it sounds just fine as it is ,..not sure" Says Hagins.

"DEAD END STREET" may slightly recall "Precarious" from 1988 but the lead vocals are really tame and mild almost like a precursor to weak crap like Coldplay that would arrive a Decade later; "I find myself listening to this song and being confused,.. right when I think it needed improvement ,.. several people will then tell me how great it is and how much they love it" ( Laughs) Says Hagins.

DES comes tumbling out of your speakers in this Keith Moon and the Who like drum pattern as Hagins "beautiful" 1960's like lead vocals sound nothing like "Coke Snorting" or "Virus O'Syrus" both recorded only a few months earlier in 1990 ; "Its definitely not metal or punk or even alternative ,.." Says Hagins "It doesn't have balls like 'Star" or the beauty of 22nd Street ,.. but it definitely "has something" ,.. something unique in the history of G.e" Says Hagins.

Hagins feels the song might have an "Early 1960's era David Bowie" feel or maybe Syd Barrett or Arthur Lee and Love vibe ,.. "Nah ,..its too wimpy for those,.." Says Hagins. "Fuck ,..I donno ,..people like it ,..what can I do ,.. sometimes I can't figure this shit out" ( Laughs ).

The Song would be the lead off "Opening Track" of the GOING LEGIT ALBUM IN 1991 and would give way to harder edged songs on that cassette and rather quick ,.. "Whats weird is all those vocals were cut the same day with Andy Houston and in like one hour" Says Hagins. "And he was in the booth sayin' shit like ,.. Dude you're multi personality ,..its like 6 different singers for six different songs !! he was totally blown away by that vocal session i remember" Says Hagins.

DES was cut the same day in January 1991 as the G.e. classic "Hey Negrita" ,... as well as the majestic "22nd Street",....
